Sussex, 2016

Ecclesden Farm was something of a hidden gem in the West Sussex area. This peaceful campsite was spread over three huge fields where people could pitch up as they pleased. The laid back atmosphere made for a great relaxing weekend.

A trip to a local Flea Market on the Saturday turned out to be more of a collectors fair than a Car Boot, and required most of us who attended to make several trips to the car just to load items that we couldn’t carry! Perhaps the most talked about purchase of the day was Christopher Beresford’s new gramophone, dating from 1911. It was a surreal afternoon of sitting in the sun listening to 78s play vaguely recognisable tunes (although the later evening quiz of “Name The Tune - Gramophone Edition” didn’t go down as well!) but everyone was itching to have a play with it.

Colin French once again supplied a marquee which we all made full use of on Friday and Saturday night. Any worries of being cold were soon melted when he fired up his gas powered space heater - most of our faces turned as red as the flame!

The great weekend drew to a close over a coffee morning hosted by James Mclean complete with home made cakes. We must pass on our thanks to him for hosting such a good weekend. Sadly we won’t be able to return to Ecclesden Farm as the owners are retiring and closing the campsite at the end of this season. We wish them all the best and pass on our thanks for hosting the Retro Caravan Club.
