May Bank Holiday, 2016

Our first 'Holiday Rally' was held from 28th April - 2nd May at Fir Tree Falconry Campsite, Banbury. The beautiful hillside campsite provided the perfect rural retreat for the Retro Caravan Club. 16 outfits in total attended, making for a very lively rally. For the first time, a marquee was provided for the use of the members throughout the weekend. The 'RCC Kitchen' served up tea/coffee and bacon sandwiches each morning and provided a social hub for members to meet.

Saturday started with our tie-dye workshop, kindly organised by RCC members Paul and Jackie. a dozen or so members took part and enjoyed creating psychedelic t-shirts with the specialist dyes. Tie-dye gained popularity in the 1960's and became a symbol of the hippie movement, very appropriate for classic caravanners, we thought! Other members made the most of our exclusive RCC member discount on tickets for the British Motor Museum (formally Gaydon), which was situated about six miles down the road from the campsite. Many members had towed to the weekend with a classic car, a varied selection including a Morris Minor, Triumph 2500, Range Rover, Citroen 2cv, Ford Zodiac, Rover 2000 and a Land Rover. The classic cars helped to give our campsite a real 'timewarp' feel.

The evening followed with a social gathering, making the most of the marquee. Retro coloured lights and our record player set the scene. The next morning, we held a vintage/craft/caravan related bring and buy sale in the marquee. Sadly, we have to report that no members made any money as they all bought as much or more than they sold! The rest of the day, members chose to explore the local area.

Monday morning came and we held our usual coffee morning but this time held a raffle. A joke prize was issued at the end to the 'lucky' winner was chosen - to take an over-sized standard lamp home! Unfortunately, he came in a Morris Minor, so he departed with a scene remeniscent of the opening credits of the Antiques Roadshow with the lamp poking out of his car!

All in all, it was a really fun weekend, with all members expressing their enjoyment and thanks to those who worked hard to organise it all. We hope to run a similar rally at the same time next year.
